Merry Christmas 2010

Merry Christmas.

If you’re Christian, this is where we celebrate that God gave us an out to make up for the innumerable ways in which we all fall short  every moment of our lives.

On the other hand, if you’re Jewish, this is where you go out for a movie and Chinese food.

And on the other hand again, if you’re Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Wiccan, agnostic, athiestic or otherwise (and, apparently, have three hands), even without the church or presents or General Tso’s chicken, this still could be a time of year where the chilly air and dark evenings have a little more warmth and sparkle than usual, and where people are a little quicker to smile.

I hope so.

It’s proven to be a very happy Christmas for many of us, who have been given wonderful surprises, beautiful gifts, and happinesses beyond what we expected. May we work to deserve and appreciate them.

So whatever you celebrate, wherever you are, I’m wishing you that warmth and sparkle and smile – that Christmas joy. Merry merry.
